How accurate is Launchly?

Launchly fuses GPS Doppler speed with 100 Hz accelerometer data and interpolates the exact start and finish moments. With a good GPS signal this gives roughly ±0.05 s timing accuracy, comparable to dedicated performance meters.

Can I run the quarter mile?

Yes. Next to the speed targets Launchly times distance runs: 100, 200 and 400 m, or the 1/8 and 1/4 mile on an imperial phone. Every distance run reports the elapsed time and the trap speed over the line.

Does Launchly work in mph?

Yes, and 0-60 mph is a finish line of its own rather than a converted 0-100 km/h. Units follow your device region by default and can be switched in Settings. Every run records its crossings in both ladders, so your times and records survive the switch.

Does Launchly work on my phone?

Launchly runs on iOS and Android. Even on phones that only deliver 1 Hz GPS, the 100 Hz IMU fusion keeps timing accurate. A clear view of the sky improves GPS quality. On Android you can also plug in a USB-C GNSS receiver and measure at 10 Hz.

Which languages does Launchly speak?

English, Dutch, German and Portuguese. The app follows your phone language by default and can be set to any of the four in Settings.

Where is my data stored?

All runs, cars and charts are stored locally on your device. An account is only needed for the friends leaderboard.

What is free and what is PRO?

Measuring 0-100 km/h, or 0-60 mph on an imperial phone, is free forever with one car in your garage and no account. So are your full history, the speed chart and sharing. Launchly PRO costs €2.99 per month, or €14.99 per year, and unlocks every other speed target, all distance runs, unlimited cars, the gauge faces and the G-force chart.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Measuring works fully offline. GPS and the motion sensors need no data connection. Internet is only used for the optional friends leaderboard and Dutch licence plate lookups.

Is it safe and legal to use?

Launchly is a measuring instrument. Only measure on a closed course or track, never on public roads. Mount your phone securely and keep your eyes on the road.

Why it is accurate

GPS + IMU.

Most phones deliver GPS just once per second. That is five data points across a four second launch — nowhere near enough on its own. Launchly reads the accelerometer at 100 Hz and fuses both signals, then refits the whole curve against every GPS anchor once the run ends.
